Welcome to the SNU Lab School

Welcome to the SNU Lab School in Bethany, Oklahoma. As a laboratory school affiliated with a university, we adopt the latest research-supported best practices in education. Understanding the diversity in student needs, we have designed flexible learning spaces that foster both independent and collaborative learning experiences.

Since our inception in 1972, we have been steadfast in our dedication to teacher training. We see it as our duty to prepare future generations of educators. To this end, we support both professional teachers and administrators with top-tier undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered by Southern Nazarene University's School of Education. Every semester, our Lab School students benefit from interacting with university students who are learning to implement research-supported best practices under the supervision of experienced teachers.

At the Lab School, student advancement is based on growing independence and skill, rather than age. We have long believed in the potential of children to thrive in a world that values self-drive, meaningful experiences, empathy, and creativity over mere compliance. We empower our students to cultivate critical thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, self-guided learning, and teamwork.

Our teaching philosophy is rooted in meaningful inquiry and cross-disciplinary work, facilitated by a blended learning approach that tailors to the needs of each student.

While some schools are only now adopting the Lab School model, we are proud to be in our fifth decade with a team of highly skilled educators, exhibiting mastery in teaching. Our school has the highest level of accreditation, granted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, The Higher Learning Commission, and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Our university students, committed to educational excellence, have the unique opportunity to study child development within a live lab setting. Both undergraduate student teachers and graduate-level researchers conduct observations, interviews, and teaching as part of their comprehensive study of the teaching-learning process.

While we don't strictly adhere to a single curriculum, our school is distinctively Christian in its teachings and orientation. Our mission stems from the belief that every child has the capacity to learn. We encourage children to build their own understanding through active engagement in a learning environment that instills Christian values.
